Frequently Asked Questions about the Study Time Calculator
-
Where does the data for the study time calculation come from?
Our calculations are based on recognized scientific sources: For languages, we use FSI data (Foreign Service Institute) from the US State Department and CEFR studies. For other skills, we use findings from learning research, including Anders Ericsson (Deliberate Practice) and Josh Kaufman (Rapid Skill Acquisition). The values are averages – individual results may vary.
-
Can I really learn faster with a tandem partner?
Ja!
-
What do the different levels mean?
For languages, the levels are based on the CEFR (Common European Framework): A1/A2 = Beginner, B1/B2 = Intermediate, C1/C2 = Advanced. For other skills, we use comparable levels: Beginner (no experience), Basic knowledge (first basics), Advanced (solid foundation), Expert (professional level).
-
How can I shorten the learning time?
The most important factors for faster learning are: Regularity (better 30 min daily than 4 hours once), active practice (not just consuming), immersion (for languages: switch your environment to the target language), tandem partner (mutual motivation) and spaced repetition (review at increasing intervals).
